Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church
Mission Statement
The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is dedicated to becoming a community of disciples of Jesus Christ. As disciples we make Jesus Christ a living reality in the lives of the members of our parish family. By guiding and encouraging our people to discipleship through a heightened awareness of our Lord's presence in their lives, the parish community becomes a visible and active expression of the Living Christ in our world today.
History of A.B.V.M
The historical roots of Assumption Parish began as a mission of St. Ursula Parish in 1927 when a small structure was built to serve as a mission chapel.
On October 16, 1952, Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was named a parish of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Fr. William Drobel was appointed as the first pastor. In 1955, an addition was incorporated into the original structure to accomodate the congregation. In 1962, Fr. James Hanlon was named partor. His pastorate saw the formation of an elementary school and convent for the Sisters of Saint Joseph. In 1977, the school was merged with St. Joseph's in Limeport to form Saint Michael the Archangel Elementary and Middle School.
The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary celebrated it's 50th anniversary as a parish in 2002.
